The Panama Canal fiscal year, closed in September 30th 2016, and the maritime route obtained 1.933,31 millions of dollars in toll incomes.

The Panama Canal obtained, between last January and February, a total of 375,20 millions of dollars in toll incomes, 17% more than the 320,66 millions of dollars of the same time lapse of 2016, according to the Contraloria General.

The Panama Canal, which has to do with 6%, approximately, of world commerce, registered 3,65% in the first two months of this year, more than the 2.354 from the same period of 2016, Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Censo (INEC) said.

In the fiscal year, closed in September 30th of 2016, the maritime route obtained 1.933,1 millions of dollars in toll incomes, 13.114 transits were registered and 330,7 millions of tons CP-SUAB (volume measure of the Sistema Universal de Arqueo de Buques del Canal de Panama) were mobilized, according to the Canal.

On the other hand, the national port system, comprised by thirty facilities, and a bit more than the half private, registered a cargo movement of 13,07 millions of metric tons, between last January and February, which means 11% more than the 11,77 millions from the same period of the last year.

A total of 1,12 millions of TEUs were mobilized in the system the first two months of the year, meaning a 16,4% more than the same period of the past year, according to INEC.

Logistics is, along finances and tourism, a strong foundation for the powerful economy of Panama, which was increased by 4,9% in 2016 according to official numbers.
